So I came across a listing on Zillow the other day and saw that the real Amityville Horror house was for sale. The Amityville Horror house for sale? You really can’t help but be curious when you see a listing like this. It’s extremely rare to be able to see inside this infamous house, so I browsed the pictures that were listed. Unfortunately, no indoor pictures were taken. No dining room, bedroom, kitchen, stairs, green slime, red room in the basement, etc. What a shame!
However, you can at least see some outdoor photos taken, including the boathouse. Taking a look at the description:
Stately center hall colonial on Amityville River. Large boat house + 2 car garage plus boat slip. Mint condition.
Some Listed FACTS:
- Baths: 3 full, 1 half
- Lot: 0.25 acres
- Built in 1927
- Last sold for $950K
Some Listed FEATURES:
- Finished Basement (Red Room!).
- Fireplace (I’m coming apart!).
- Verizon FIOS Available (whew, was worried about that).
Looking at the price history, we see that the house sold in 1997 for $230K. 13 years later (2010) it was listed for $1.15 million, but ended up selling for $950K. 6 years later, it’s back on the market again.
If I was the owner of the house, and was no longer interested in living in it, I would probably see if hosting tours was an option. Maybe even make it limited edition…only 500 tickets will be sold. Give tours of the red room, boathouse, everything. An indoor yard sale was done in 2010 when the house last sold, but official tours have never been offered. You could even do a video series and charge a few bucks to stream it. So many possibilities! I don’t live anywhere near there, but I’d definitely pay for a virtual tour. Oh well, maybe the next owner will exploit some of that…if they survive!
